About Us
What is American West Modern?
The design style found at the intersection of the well-traveled road of mid-century modern design principles and the dusty, deep ruts of the American West.
Purposeful Living By Design
Founded in 2024 with a mission to bring joy to others through thoughtfully curated articles of interior design, American West Modern places an emphasis on high-quality, American-made goods that stand the test of time.
Through this mission we believe we are living-out the unique purpose we were created and designed for and hope to inspire others to do the same.
Meet the Brand Mark
Inspired by the Naja, which means "Crescent" in Navajo, you might recognize its similarity to the centerpiece pendant of a squash blossom necklace.
The Naja has a lengthy history and it was known in many early cvilizations. Some of the earliest solid gold Najas (or lunula, latin for "little moon") were found in graves in Ireland dating back to about 2500 B.C.
The Navajo likely borrowed it from the Spanish horse headstalls or bridles where it was adorned as decoration and protection for the horse and rider.
There seem to be many meanings behind the Naja, but here are a few that stood out to us:
>>> Resiliently Confronting Adversity
>>> Creating Beauty out of Despair
>>> Rising from the Ashes
We have chosen to adopt this symbol of Beauty and Hope as a reminder that even though this world may be broken, the light will shine in the darkness and darkness will not overcome it. (John 1:5)

Meet the Shop Dog
Howdy! My name is Scout Van Winkle Valentine but folks just call me Scout. I'm an American Cocker Spaniel and I have an adventurous, vivacious spirit.
I love to socialize and meet new people and other canines until I completely wear myself out at which point I enjoy lounging in the softest, most comfortable spot I can find. My mom's infrared bio mat or the fluffy sheepskin pelt are usually my go-to relaxation destinations.
While I've had no professional training, I like to help model American West Modern goods as long as it doesn't interrupt one of my many naps.

Meet the Owner
Hey Y'all! My name is Jennifer and I have lived my whole life in the American West. I was born in Dallas and have lived in TX, CO, WA and now Idaho. Each of these places in addition to many travels throughout the West have greatly impacted both my personal style and lifestyle interests.
My professional background is in interior design. After graduating from Colorado State University with a BA in Liberal Arts I attended an accredited design school in Dallas and received a BFA in Interior Design. Dallas is also where I got my start in the design industry working for various Architecture and Design firms and obtained the NCIDQ Certification (National Council for Interior Design Qualification). Upon moving to Idaho I worked for the Herman Miller (now MillerKnoll) dealer for almost 7 years.
I believe that one's home should be filled with furnishings that are beautiful, meaningful and functional. I love helping folks incorporate American West Modern accents into their interiors and my hope is it brings them as much joy as it does me.
