About Us

What is American West Modern?

The design style found where the well-traveled road of mid-century modern design principles meets the dusty, deep ruts of the American West.

Purposeful Living By Design

Founded in 2024 with a mission to bring joy to others through thoughtfully curated articles of interior design, American West Modern places an emphasis on high-quality, American-made goods that stand the test of time.

Through this mission we believe we are living out the unique purpose we were designed for and hope to inspire others to do the same.

Meet the Brand Mark

Inspired by the Naja (naah-dja), which means "crescent" in the Diné (Navajo) language, you might recognize its similarity to the centerpiece pendant of a squash blossom necklace.

The Naja has a lengthy history and was known in many early civilizations. Some of the earliest gold Najas, also called lunula, Latin for "little moon", date back to around 2400–2000 B.C. and have been found predominantly in Ireland.

The Diné likely borrowed it from the Spanish horse headstalls or bridles, where it was adorned as decoration and protection for the horse and rider.

The Naja carries many meanings across the cultures that have held it including protection, new life and harmony. For the Diné people, it has long been a symbol of wealth, bravery and resilience forged through generations of adversity.

We have chosen to adopt this symbol of Hope as a reminder that even though this world may be broken, the light will shine in the darkness and darkness will not overcome it. (John 1:5)

Meet the Shop Dog

Howdy! My name is Scout Van Winkle Valentine but folks just call me Scout. I'm an American Cocker Spaniel and I have an adventurous, vivacious spirit.

I love to socialize and meet new people and fellow canines until I completely wear myself out, at which point I enjoy lounging in the softest, most comfortable spot I can find. My mom's infrared bio mat or the fluffy sheepskin pelt are usually my go-to relaxation destinations.

While I've had no professional training, I like to help model American West Modern goods as long as it doesn't interrupt one of my many naps.

Meet the Owner

Hey Y'all! My name is Jennifer, and I have lived my whole life in the American West. I was born in Dallas and have called TX, CO, WA and now Idaho home. Each of these places, along with many travels throughout the West, has greatly shaped both my personal style and lifestyle interests.

My professional background is in interior design. After earning a BA in Liberal Arts from Colorado State University, I attended an accredited design school in Dallas where I received a BFA in Interior Design. Dallas is also where I got my start in the industry, working for various architecture and design firms and earning the NCIDQ Certification (National Council for Interior Design Qualification). After relocating to Idaho, I spent nearly seven years with the Herman Miller dealer here.

I believe that a home should be filled with furnishings that are beautiful, meaningful and functional. I love helping folks incorporate American West Modern accents into their interiors, and my hope is that it brings them as much joy as it does me.
